Newsletter 12 - 27th November 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,
Another busy week in school has flown by again.
Visits
We have been celebrating our history topics in Y4, Y5 and Y6 this week with virtual and in school visits from Chertsey Museum and Ufton Court. We know how important our educational visits are for the children to inspire them and bring their learning to life. We look forward to the days when we can resume our trips!
After School Clubs
We are pleased to be coming to the end of this current lockdown situation. Happily, we will be permitted to resume our after school clubs from next Thursday 3rd December. Please check emails from the club providers for details. (Basketball will not be resuming until after Christmas).
Advent
Next week brings the start of the Advent Season. I’m sure many of you have Advent Calendars at the ready. Reverend Jon has produced a short video, featuring children and staff for each day in Advent. We will be sharing these with the children in school and we will send you a link to each day's video by email as they are released.  You can check out Reverend Jon's YouTube channel anytime which can be found here if you want to see the videos as they come online and look back at others.

Stars of the Week for w/e 27th November 2020

Year 1 – Sophie for always trying her hardest and being an enthusiastic learner.

Year 2 –  Iris for having a super attitude towards learning.

Class 3 – Arthur for his independence in writing his adventure story about Tilly.  Your hard work and determination is wonderful to see.

Class 4 – Henry and Ollie for impressing the Roman Centurion with their understanding during Roman Day.

Class 5C – Abigail for always engaging with learning both at school and at home and for coming up with a great original design in DT.

Class 5W – Zara for always working conscientiously and for working so hard to write effective sentences in English

Year 6 – Dylan for his precision and careful construction of his WW1 Code Wheel.  Fantastic use of a pair of compasses and protractor!

House of the Week
The House with the most house points this week is Fire! Well done Fire!

Class 4 Roman Day
On Monday, class 4 were visited by a Roman centurion. He taught them the various military formations: the shield wall, the wedge, the orb and the testado (tortoise). This prepared them for the afternoon when they took part enthusiastically in their own battle: the disciplined Romans against the barbaric Iceni tribe. Also during the day, class 4 ordered a Roman timeline, examined Roman artefacts, played Roman games and went on an augury trail. Roman history was certainly brought to life!

Bayeux Tapestry

In Year 5 we have been learning about the famous Bayeux tapestry and practising our sewing skills. So far, we have learnt back stitch, running stitch and cross stitch. We are hoping to create our own class tapestry before Christmas.
