Newsletter 19 - 2nd February 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

Holy Trinity Church Food Bank

We are now a drop off point for the Holy Trinity Foodbank which distributes in our local community.  A representative from the Church will let us know which items they're short of, and if you'd like to donate any of these they can be left in School Reception.  Thank you in advance for living out our vision.  At the moment, the Food Bank is in need of:

  • Tinned sweetcorn
  • Tinned soup
  • Tinned fruit
  • Tinned custard
  • Tinned meat
  • Long life milk
  • Long life fruit juice
  • Jars of coffee
  • Teabags

Goodbye and Goodluck Miss Hing

Today, we said a very sad goodbye to Miss Hing who has worked at the school for over 9 years. Thank you for making a huge difference to the children (and staff) you have worked with – we will miss you immensely.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Mrs Carmel Barnes

Assistant Headteacher

KS1 and KS2 Trainers for the Field

Please could all children have spare/old trainers in lockers for using on the field and for outdoor PE so that mud doesn't come back in to the building after playing outside.  Children should wear school shoes on PE days and change in to trainers for outdoor PE, to go on the field at playtimes and for after school clubs.  Many thanks.

Sow Day (next Friday) and Eco Warrior News

At Eco Warriors today, we “potted on” some of the broccoli we sowed back at the start of Autumn and have sowed some sweet pepper seeds, hopefully to make plants to sell later on.  Our broad beans have so far survived the frosts, and pea shoots, daffodil and other spring bulbs are starting to appear.

The children have helped to create some more pathways, and the allotment Robin payed us a visit and some of the children saw him eating the mealworms they’d put out.

On February 9th, before we all rush off for half term holidays, we’ll be having a “sow day”. We will have some pots and seeds and instructions for sowing and growing baby cucumbers together. If you can’t make it or are away over the holidays and would still like a seed to sow when you get back, please get in touch with me (Claire 07715469749).

Parent Webinars for Safer Internet Day

Cybercrime Education is part of modern policing and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit have asked schools to share the following information and webinar details:

Next week, to support Safer Internet Day, we will be running a parent webinar explaining Cyber Choices and the risks to young people of committing computer misuse offences. As you are already aware, this risk is now a Safeguarding risk, named within KCSiE (Keeping Children Safe in Education documentation), so to try and further raise awareness of this, we want to reach out and explain to parents - as well as safeguarding leads and partner agencies through our other presentations – just how young people can cross the line into cyber crime.

We will be running this webinar three times throughout next week, at the following times:

Tuesday 6th February 13:00-14:00

Thursday 8th February 09:30-10:30

Thursday 8th February 20:00-21:00

We truly appreciate any support you can give to these sessions a success – there are 500 spaces available on each, so that’s a lot of families that could be reached, and a lot of at-home safeguarding that could be enabled, if we can fill those slots! If anyone has any further questions, or wants to know more, please direct them to our team email address: cyberchoices@serocu.police.uk
