Newsletter 8 - 23rd October 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,
What a great way to finish the term with a mufti day. The children have thoroughly enjoyed the fun today!
Thank you for your support and monetary donations towards the PTA funds.

First term done!
I am hugely proud of how well this first term return to school has gone. The children have settled so well and have been very accepting of new routines. The staff have been working so hard to keep the children safe whilst ensuring their learning continues. And as parents, you have been great at following guidance and getting used to new routines as well.

Positive Cases
We are very blessed that we have not had to close any bubbles due to positive cases in school. We have not had any staff or pupils test positive. Of course, this could well be the case in the future but we are confident that we have all the procedures in place to manage this should it arise.
If you do need to inform us of a positive test result during half term, please email the office immediately with POSITIVE TEST as the subject. We will monitor this email inbox as we will have to initiate track and trace systems and liaise with Public Health England without delay.

Unique and Valuable
As a whole school, we enjoyed a virtual retreat last Friday afternoon. This was a time of reflection to appreciate and celebrate our differences. The children took part in activities and collective worship focusing on themselves and how precious they are.

Drop off and pick up times after half term
We are really pleased with how well the drop and pick up is going. However, we are keen to reduce the times at the end of the day to ease difficulties with sibling collections. Therefore, after half term the timings will be:

Mufti Day Fun Run!

Thank you for voting for me as your school councillor, if not this Fun Run wouldn't have happened.  I hope everybody enjoyed it and hopefully this money helped our school too.  I couldn't have done it without Jack the other school councillor in my class.  Thank you to all teachers as well especially Miss Cullen and Miss Wallbanks as Miss Cullen is my form teacher and Miss Wallbanks is head of the School Council.  Aaran said this 'I really enjoyed the Fun Run thanks School Councillors'.  Poppy said this 'The Fun Run was awesome and everyone was dressed up for Halloween.  Thank you so much Harry and Jack!'  And finally Lily said, 'The Fun Run was awesome thank you!'

Happy Halloween!

Year 6 - Heathrow Young Explorers

Yesterday Y6 had a session from Learning to Work – Heathrow Young Explorers.  We found out about different roles at the airport and that Heathrow are working hard on developing their use of sustainable resources.  We were challenged to design a transport solution for the airport.  We had to think about how that transport would be powered and who would drive it.  We thought about solar, electric, wind and kinetic power amongst others.  Different materials were explored for example metals, plastics, wood, carbon fibre composites and other fabrics.  For this we had to consider the price, sustainability, advantages and disadvantages.  The next step was getting creative with our designs.  Have a look at some of our finished products.  The winning team was Eco-Heathrow: Manon, Lola and Francis but everyone showed great teamwork and presentation skills at the end.  It was a close competition!  A couple of quotes from the children:

‘It was great fun, I think we were more creative because we had to draw our designs ourselves’ and ‘I really liked presenting our idea and designing it – it was amazing!’

Mrs Neale - Year 6 Teacher

Vibrant Volcanic Explosions in Year 4
Year 4 have been learning about volcanoes. They have made their own versions and this week had great fun exploding them using bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and red food colouring!

Harvest Donations

Thank you so much for all of your Harvest donations. We have lots to hand over to the Church and we know this will ease the burden for many people.

Data Collection

Thank you for returning your data collection, medical and home school agreement forms by the half term deadline.  Please can any remaining forms be returned as soon as possible after the half term so that we can check that all of our pupil data is properly up to date.
