Newsletter 17 - 19th January 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

Another week has flown by again.

This week, the Head Boys and Head Girls have been talking to all the classes about Internet Safety. They prepared questions to ask and have been gathering information about the children’s understanding of how to stay safe online and what to do if they come across a problem. You won’t be surprised to hear that most children do play games online/use the internet and most of them have access to devices.  We will be providing further information about how to stay safe online with workshops for the children, for us teaching them and for you as parents. We will send more detail closer to the time (June 11th).

If you are worried and need to seek advice about your child’s online activities then please take a look at our website for further information and signposts to help.

Our value this term is WISDOM.  We have been exploring with the children what it means to be wise and why we value wisdom as a quality. Maybe you could ask your child what they think? And who they think is wise?

Thank you to Year 3 parents for the contributions to their Bake Sale this afternoon.

Enjoy the weekend!

House of the Week

World Book Day

We will be celebrating World Book Day in school this year on Friday 8th March and children will be asked to dress up as characters from books!  More details will follow but this is just to give you the heads up to be thinking of costumes.

World Book Day £1 tokens will come home just before half term as they are valid from 15th February in the middle of the holiday.

P is for POLYTUNNEL….

As you may have noticed we have recently installed a beautiful polytunnel to the allotment plot at the far end of the school field. Claire Patel has been managing this project, with the help of some mini volunteers (the Eco Committee & Warrior Club) which we think is amazing, the project and Claire to be precise!  It is a work in progress that really hits all the right spots. We now have a space where our kids will be encouraged to help grow and care for a school garden, embrace and interact with nature and all while being outdoors…. a perfect way to nurture growing minds, even in the cold weather.  There are bird feeders, mini wildlife ponds and bug hotels to encourage nature interactions and environmental awareness.

This term the team have sown an array of bulbs, wildflowers and even some vegetables. There will soon be some daffodils and tulips popping up and we cannot wait to see what happens in Spring and Summer.  The Eco Warriors and a few specially invited guests meet every Wednesday at lunchtime under the guidance of our very generous volunteer, Claire, to tend to the allotment. This is currently restricted in numbers due to the need for supervision. As the allotment progresses, so too will the involvement of all children via class interaction, which will be managed by the teachers.

We hope to have a Grand Opening in April (details to follow) that will allow parents (and kids) to have a wander around the allotment and inside the polytunnel.  Claire would be grateful for some (adult) helping hands to manage the kids and the exciting projects for the allotment area.  Even if it’s just once off…. Should you wish to get involved, have any questions, suggestions or even compliments, you are welcome to contact Claire on 07715469749.

If anyone is interested in donating or is throwing out items, the Eco Warrior Team would be grateful for: benches, tables, parasols, potting benches, compost, nut free bird food, a sun dial and of course volunteer TIME.
