Newsletter 30 - 10th May 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

Another week, another class assembly! Well done to Year 1 who did a fabulous job yesterday and wowed us all with their musical performance.

Y6 SATs

Our wonderful Year 6 class will be taking their end of Key Stage 2 tests next week. They’ve all worked so hard to prepare – we’re very proud of you all Year 6! Thank you to the Year 6 staff team who have supported the children so well in their preparations. Also a thank you to  parents of Year 6 who have guided the children so well at this time too. We wish you all the best of luck next week Year 6.

PTA Summer Fair

Is on Saturday 29th June 11am – 2pm. Information will be with you from PTA about how you can volunteer time to help and donate items. Thank you in advance for your support with this event as it’s usually our biggest fundraiser – we greatly appreciate the contributions from all parents.

Class Photos

On 20th May, the school photographer will be here to take class photos. Please send all children to school in summer uniform that day for a smart photo. If the children have PE or clubs that day, please send their PE kit in with them to change into after their photograph.

Hope you enjoy the sunny weekend,

Mrs Griffith

Change to Menu - Thursday 16th May

Please note that there is a change to the published menu on School Census Day which is next Thursday.  It's helpful to our funding if as many children as possible choose a school meal on that day (especially those in Reception Class, Year 1 and Year 2). Please see the menu choices below:

Year 6 Learn About Climate Change

Thank you so much to Finley's Mum (Reception Class) for coming in to share her knowledge and expertise with Year 6!  Students from Royal Holloway have also painted and donated stones for our outdoor areas which have a QR code to the RHULearthsciences Instagram page.  Here is the Year 6 report:

On Thursday the 9th, a lady called Christina from Royal Holloway University came to talk to Year 6 about climate change. We learnt so much and did fun experiments: testing the CO2 inside and outside the classroom and (one of our personal favourites) filling up test bags with air and testing the difference in temperature between CO2 and the air bags.  We learnt that the atmosphere is heating up and we also looked at graphs which showed the the temperature over the last decades.  Fortunately, since temperatures have increased and decreased in the past hopefully they will then decrease again.  Thank you Christina for your time.

Inez and Heloise - Year 6

Tennis Achievements - Zen - Year 4

Zen in Year 4 has been enjoying lots of tournament and county tennis! He entered his first U10 tournament two weeks ago and came 2nd, entering another one last weekend and coming 4th overall.  In county tennis he and his partner beat strong contenders Essex in the Lionel Cox Cup, as well as all other counties in their side of the competition, only losing to Cambridgeshire in the final.  What a great start to the season!

Savan - Henley Triathalon

Savan will be taking part in the Henley Triathlon again this year to raise money for the PTA.  Last year Savan raised enough money to pay for the polytunnel and more!

Please take a look at his sponsorship page and donate whatever you can, and please do share the page and help him smash last years total. Many thanks.

Make a difference for a local child: Foster care with the Royal Borough

Become a foster carer with the Royal Borough and make a difference for a local child in your community. Providing a secure, stable and supportive home for a child or young person is a valuable and rewarding paid role.

We need more people from all walks of life to look after a range of local children and young people in the short- or longer-term, including teenagers, sibling groups and children with a disability, who for different reasons cannot live with their parents.

Many different people can provide a caring home. We welcome enquiries from anyone aged 21 or over, regardless of income, employment status, gender, sexuality, religion, whether or not you have pets, own your home or rent.

In return, we offer our foster carers excellent support, training and benefits via our in-house independent fostering agency, Achieving for Children Fostering, which provides foster care services for the Royal Borough, Kingston and Richmond councils.

Visit www.afcfostering.org.uk and contact us at fosteringenquiries@achievingforchildren.org.uk or call 020 8547 5355.
