Macmillan Coffee Morning

Thank you so much to everyone who came and donated to the coffee morning today and also to those who provided lovely cakes! This is a cause special to the hearts of so many and we thank you for your support.  Remaining cakes will be sold at 3.15pm today by the PTA for a donation to Macmillan.  Thank you to our PTA reps for helping with this and for helping with the coffee morning too!

Reception Class Visited by a Physiotherapist!

This week in Reception we had a visit from Rosie’s Mum who is a physiotherapist. She talked to us about how she works in a hospital to help people. She then explained that by doing exercises it helps to keep us fit and healthy, so we went outside and had some fun exercising together. Thank you so much to Rosie's Mum for visiting us!

Year 2 Visit to Hampton Court

On Wednesday Year 2 went on a trip to Hampton Court Palace as part of our Tudors topic. We took part in two workshops led by ‘Lady Beth’ and ‘Lady Alice’.

Hampton Court Palace has patterns and symmetry all around it and we were tasked with designing and costing a new brick wall for the palace. We then got to build some of our designs with lego.

In the afternoon, we learned about Tudor fashion, how to do a Tudor bow, we got to hold some Tudor objects and then learned a Tudor dance. It was a great day and we all decided that it would be a really difficult house to keep clean!

Papplewick School Football Tournament - Year 2

On Monday this week, representatives from Year 2 formed two teams and took part in the Papplewick School Football Tournament.  There were twelve teams overall split into two groups and the Holy Trinity Teams won both groups and thereby the Tournament overall!  Well done to Aidan, Fin, Luke, Samuel and Xander of Holy Trinity Team A and Ayden, Cathy, Jacob, Jude, Kaleb and Keiron of Holy Trinity Team B.  What a fantastic result!  Thank you to Mrs Hunter for taking the children in the church minibus and to Mrs Free for managing and supporting the teams throughout the afternoon.

Mrs Free to Run half Marathon for Muscular Dystrophy UK

On Sunday 13th October, Mrs Free will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London (her first half marathon!) in aid of Muscular Dystrophy UK, a charity which is important to us in school.  Muscular Dystrophy UK  brings individuals, families and professionals together to fight muscle-wasting conditions. Founded in 1959, they have been leading the fight against muscle-wasting conditions since then. They bring together more than 60 rare and very rare progressive muscle-weakening and wasting conditions, affecting around 70,000 children and adults in the UK.

If you'd like to sponsor Mrs Free please speak to her directly or do so via the school office.  Many thanks and good luck to Mrs Free!

Congratulations on Making the Berkshire Tennis Training Squad!

Congratulations are due to Ellis in Year 5 who has been invited to join the Berkshire Tennis Boys U10 Training Squad.  Well done for all your hard work Ellis and we hope you continue to enjoy your tennis!

Food Waste in School

We are encouraging children to separate food waste and use special recycling bins in school at lunch time.  We will soon be charged for our mixed landfill waste by weight and are taking various measures to reduce this.  Please encourage your children to bring home any packets and wrappings from packed lunch items if they can.  Reducing packaging or introducing reusable wraps for sandwiches might help with this too.  Many thanks for your co-operation in helping us in our commitment to recycle as much whilst reducing the burden on our finances at the same time.

Plastic Bottle Recycling

Whilst on the subject of recycling, we would like to introduce our bottle recycling project to our new parents.  We have been working in conjunction with GreenRedeem to collect plastic bottles to create a clean, and therefore, valuable recycling resource.  Please bring us your plastic drinks bottles (drinks bottles only, no milk bottles, tops on if poss) and GreenRedeem will pay us 5p for each one we scan in to their 'reverse vending' machine here in school.  So far you have raised over £700 for school and directed over 14,000 bottles for high quality recycling.  This is a pilot project due to run until Christmas so please keep your bottles coming until then.  Click here for more information and a local league table of how many bottles have been recycled and how much money has been raised for schools.

A Wish Granted!
Last week Miss Wallbanks published a wish for a donation of £500 to buy glockenspiels for school to enhance our music provision.  We are very grateful indeed to the parent who has come forward to grant this wish and will be paying for the glockenspiels!  Thank you so much and we hope to have the glockenspiels soon!
