Spirituality

How do we express our spirituality at Holy Trinity?

While this is a very personal and unique experience, it is often expressed in how we connect in our community. We aim to nurture pupils and adults to grow and flourish in their own individual spiritual journey in the context of our Church school.

We offer them opportunities to:

  • be still and reflect (using Spacemakers)
  • join in with prayer and worship to God
  • consider Big Questions about our world and humanity
  • learn and grow in the natural world of our Forest School and grounds
  • wonder about life's diversity
  • reflect on their experiences and insights
  • express what they believe and value and share that with the Holy Trinity Family
  • express what they believe and value through action and the creative arts
  • experience activities they may not otherwise have access to

Opportunities to develop spirituality across the curriculum

Opportunities for spiritual development are both planned and spontaneous.

Collective Worship:

This daily time gives our community the opportunity to slow down, find stillness, be in the moment and focus on what is important. Lighting our candle, watching the stilling jar, listening to music, listening to familiar Bible stories remind children that they are loved and valued for who they are. They can explore Big Questions and the importance of our chosen values and vision and share their interpretations with their peers. We all can share a sense of togetherness and are encouraged to grow in our own spiritual journey.

Forest School:

Children are taught about how life interacts with the forest and our place in the natural world. They practise being thoughtful in their care of the natural world with a trained and experienced Forest School Leader.

Religion and World Views Education:

Children are encouraged to explore fundamental questions about life and meaning. They learn how people of faith and those with differing views express their spirituality. Our curriculum gives them opportunities to consider their own personal responses.

English

Children respond to literature and poetry. They are given times of reflection as well as times of immersive writing. Hearing stories read aloud can often provide an opportunity of a spiritual response - one of joy and happiness and peace.

Mathematics:

Patterns and sequences are explored numerically as well as visually. Wonder and 'wow' often happens when children see these incredible patterns in nature. A sense of self is developed through experiencing the Learning Pit and a lightbulb moment when the learning clicks!

Science

Children are exposed to the wonder of the natural world. How life connects and the cycle of life all around us. A curiosity to find the answer to Big Questions is encouraged.

Geography:

Understanding the power and beauty of the natural world and how we fit into it offers plenty of opportunities for children to experience moments of wonder. As does learning about a variety of cultures and the range of diversity that is to be celebrated in our world.

History

Children are taught about the journey of our nation, how we fit chronologically in our history, how our actions and decisions can impact others, as well as learning about our human understanding of the universe. Links between us and our ancestors are explored as well as how the worship of higher beings has been practised throughout history.

Art

Art is a vehicle to both experience and express our spirituality and creativity. Children are given freedom to explore different media and express their creativity in this way.

Music

Along with the singing and listening to music that we enjoy in Collective worship, our music curriculum also offers a host of opportunities to compose, appreciate and perform music.  Our choir and their performances provide a spiritual moment for those taking part and those in the audience.

PSHE

This gives us opportunities to own our own development. Developing friendships, exploring feelings, staying calm and positive in the face of change. Growing as a community and developing relationships with others. We aim to develop perseverance, independence and resilience.

Design Technology

Once again, designing and solving problems often provides a 'wow' moment for children. Understanding how things work and exploring structures leads to explore purpose and design with a sense of appreciation.

Physical Education

So many moments of joy and happiness can be found during the PE lessons and many clubs and sporting competitions. The links between physical, emotional and spiritual health are clear to us. Teamwork and communications skills are developed and moulded. Supporting your sporting House Team on Sports Day is definitely a spiritual experience for children and adults alike!

How is Spirituality experienced in school life?

In addition to the curriculum, at Holy Trinity spirituality is experienced through:
