Spring 1 2022

Welcome to Spring 1 2022

Tell Me a Tale!

This term we are following themes raised by key texts. We are beginning the new year by thinking about winter and we are starting at the South Pole with some classic penguin stories.

We are then reading the book, 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' and following the rest of the school by using 'The Write Stuff' to use this book to support our language and literacy development.

The following week we are very excited to have our annual visit from Pied Piper Productions. They are performing 'Robin's Winter Adventures'. This ties in perfectly with the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch and we will be using our Forest School Session to record the birds we see around the school grounds.

The following week is Chinese New Year. We will be learning about the traditions behind this celebration.

The following week we are reading books from the Elmer series by David McKee. These enchanting books give our pupils the chance to explore colour mixing and designing their own elephants for Elmer Day.

The final week of term is Valentine's day so we will be reading the class, 'Guess How Much I Love You.'

The new curriculum leaflets are posted below for you to see how the learning we are covering this term.

Remote Learning

We are hoping the term will run smoothly! If the whole class has to move to remote learning, videos and workplans will be posted in the remote learning section below. If individual children are away from school please email reception@holytrinityprimary.org and we will send home reading books and work to be completed at home if your child is well enough.

Lost and Found: We read the story together and then talked about the boy and the penguin's journey to the North Pole. We investigated objects that would float and then built boats and tested whether they could float.

Funky Finger Challenge time: To balance the snowflakes....the children ended up gluing the pieces together to make igloos!

What a super start to the term! The children enjoyed reading Penguins in the Fridge, they made their own penguins and then other pets they would like to have! They were very excited that Nibbles the class hamster has joined us for the term. We learnt about Jack Frost and did 'Frost' paintings at Forest School. They enjoyed exploring the ice that had trapped a number of animals that live in the polar regions.
