Newsletter 25 - 21st March 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

Our vision is for our pupils to flourish in an inclusive, inspirational place of learning where we are happy, respectful, kind and safe.

Writing Competition linked to our School Library renovation!

The Royal Mint Museums are running a Creative Writing/Short Story Competition for age 8-11 year olds.  The PTA are focusing on raising funds for the Library at the moment and the prizes include vouchers for equipment and books for the school library.

This year's topic is Sustainable Futures. Over the last few years the Royal Mint has been moving toward a more sustainable way of working by increasing its use of renewable energies and changing what we do by building a new precious metal recycling department on our site in South Wales. As we are looking to the future, we’d like your young authors to do the same with their story.

The competition runs from 17th February – 25th April and is a fantastic opportunity for young writers to showcase their creativity.

Visit our website for full details and inspiration to help get started.

Year 4 Fund Raiser Reggie!

In February Reggie from Year 4 completed a challenge to walk or run 1km every day. During the week he ran around the new running track on the school field at lunch and break times. At weekends Reggie monitored his steps when walking locally or running around the football pitch. Reggie managed to raise £83, which he donated to the school library.  Thanks so much Reggie for raising money and donating it to our school!  You are an inspiration!

Year 3/4 Girls Football Tournament - The Marist School

Our Chair of Governors, Mr Fettes, accompanied a team of Year 3/4 girls to play in a football tournament at the Marist School last Friday.  Mr Fettes reported:

'It was a pleasure to accompany the children on their visit to the Marist today. They played as a team and shared the role in goal and rotation of players between games was well received by all.  The group stage saw three convincing wins against sides from the Marist and Coworth Flexlands. This placed them in the Trophy group for the next round which was the best teams from the group stages. They lost their first game to a strong Coworth Flexlands side. The next two games saw a win and a draw, this placed them second overall. Medals were handed out and they enjoyed the drinks and snacks on offer.

They were a credit to the school and their behaviour was exemplary.'

Second place – a fantastic result for the girls, some of whom were playing their first competitive football tournament.

Thank you to Mr Fettes for attending the tournament with the girls.

Year 5/6 Girls Football Tournament - The Marist School

'The football matches were quite tough but we managed to win three games, drew one and lost one. The goals were scored by Saffie, Simar, Iris and Sophie; one of Saffie’s goals was from the halfway line! Rosie and Ariana shared the role of goalie. We played St. Michael’s, Coworth A, Reddam, The Marist, St. Francis and Coworth B. Overall, we came fourth out of ten teams'.  Year 5 Girls

A fantastic result – well done girls. A thank you to Mr Holt for attending the tournament with the girls.

Year 6 Mum to Take Part in CoppaTrek!

Mrs Bazley from Year 6 will be taking part in CoppaTrek later this year:

“This November, I will be embarking on a little adventure in the Sahara desert where, alongside another 119 pink trekkers, I will be walking over 100kms during 5 days in support of a charity that is very close to my heart - CoppaFeel.

Coppafeel are on a mission to stamp out the late diagnosis of breast cancer by making sure that people, in particular young people, are regularly checking their breasts and chests and by helping them understand what their “normal” is.

In September 2023, I was diagnosed with Grade 2 invasive breast cancer which I am very fortunate to say was picked up early.  This meant I received a “straightforward” and hopefully successful treatment. I have no doubt that my early diagnosis was a direct result of regular monthly checks and awareness that charities like Coppafeel keep promoting.

Early detection in cancer can be a game changer but so is knowing your normal and what signs to look for. And having gone through it I couldn’t agree more!

So I feel incredibly lucky to be given the opportunity to go on this trek and to support this wonderful charity.

If would like to help me raise money for CoppaFeel please click here to read my story which should give you a glimpse of my journey and why I am determined to help this (and other) cancer related charities.

Chertsey Museum

Chertsey Museum will be running a number of different activities during the upcoming Easter Holidays.

While some of these activities have a small charge, they also run a free family craft activity on the first Saturday of the month (5th April), which will be the first Saturday of the holidays for many schools.

The museum itself is free to enter and has interactive exhibitions well suited to children.
