I hope you all had an enjoyable half term. It is great to have the children back and we are continuing with our Ancient Egypt topic this term.
Thank you for the Masked Reader videos I have received for World Book Day so far. In order to give you all some time to create one, I will be showing them to the children on Friday.
The weekly homework for this week is below.
We are learning about fractions in maths this week. We have been revising some year 2 work this week to ensure the children have solid foundations but will be progressing to adding and subtracting fractions over the next couple of weeks. This week the focus has been finding a fraction of an amount - both with a unit fraction (where you have one part, such as one third) and a non-unit fraction (where you have more than one part, for example two-thirds). I have set 4 tasks on Mathletics to consolidate our classroom learning.
We have discovered compound sentences this week. This involves joining two sentences using one of the 7 co-ordinating conjunctions in the English language. These are for, and, nor, but, or, yet and so - helpfully remembered with the acronym FANBOYS.
I have included a worksheet in the children's homework book for completion. This is also attached here for information.
Our topic this term is Forces and Magnets. We concentrated on forces last term (hence the Sir Isaac Newton fact sheet) and are now moving onto magnets.
To get the children thinking about the importance of magnets, I would like them to look around your home and write me a list of all the things that use magnets. This can be done in their pink homework books. If they like, they can get creative with their work and add pictures or make a poster - however this is optional and a list will suffice!
To help, I am attaching some slides to start them thinking.
